Joseph Merlo of Energy Automation Systems Announces Energy Saving
Partnership with Trevecca Nazarene University
Nashville, TN – March 31, 2010 – Joseph Merlo, CEO of Energy Automation
Systems (EASI) is pleased to welcome Trevecca Nazarene University to the EASI
family. The university recently installed EASI’s energy-saving technologies and
Joseph Merlo estimates that the partnership will reduce Trevecca’s energy
consumption by about 15 percent.
Joseph Merlo reported that the 109-year-old institution has chosen the
energy-saving technologies for financial and environmental reasons. Trevecca’s
president, Dr. Dan Boone, stated that “reducing Trevecca’s energy bill helps
keep tuition costs lower.” Joseph Merlo pointed out that the university is
aware that “students today are keenly aware of their school’s environmental
impact; this initiative demonstrates how [Trevecca is exhibiting] environmental
responsibility.”
\According to Joseph Merlo, EASI’s systems were installed in March of 2010, in
a 25,000 square-foot A. B. Mackey building. Joseph Merlo added that the
three-story building, built in 1961, once housed Trevecca’s library. Renovated
in 2000, it is now home to the university’s School of Education.
The university chose the Mackey Building to install Joseph Merlo’s technology
because it is individually metered and will enable Trevecca to get a better
read on the cost savings, according to the university’s director of plant
operations, Glen Linthicum. Joseph Merlo anticipates that the university will
implement the same technologies across the entire campus. A 34-month payback on
the $17,000 project was an important selling point, according to Joseph Merlo.
David Caldwell, Executive Vice President of Finance and Administration added
that the system is expected to benefit “the university both in the return we’ll
receive in the short term and the savings that will result over the 30-year
life expectancy of the Energy Automation Systems’ technologies.” Joseph Merlo’s
Nashville-based company installed technologies to reduce the amount of wasted
electricity in electrical systems and improve power quality.
Energy Automation Systems has conducted thousands of installations around the
globe. “In more than 32 years we’ve always met or exceeded our energy savings
estimates,” stated Joseph Merlo. Principal technologies used in the project
were EASI’s Easiliners and PowerLiners, according to Merlo. Frigi-Tech was
applied to air-conditioning systems to reduce friction and heat, increase
cooling capacity, and extend their operational life by protecting seals and
bearings. Joseph Merlo also said that occupancy sensors were installed in
selected rooms to turn lights on and off.
Energy Automations Systems, Inc. (EASI) was founded by Joseph Merlo
thirty-two years ago. The company develops, manufactures, and markets
energy-reduction and cost-saving technologies for business clients around the
